90s Bollywood and #TrendSetters Pt 2

The Bollywood 90s #TrendSetters

Hola people!

On Saturday last week, we talked about #TrendSetters in India back in the 90s. We talked about Kajol, Karishma, Madhuri, Sridevi, SRK, Salman, Aamir and so much more and all about their trendsetting movies and fashion style!

While researching for the post, we came up with 4 outfits that our favorite actresses that we truly loved in some of these films and found we could easily replicate with items from our wardrobe. We present to you four different #trendsetters from the 90s and our rendition of these timeless classic outfits.

Karishma Kapoor in Judwaa

Karishma Kapoor had a fun bubbly character in Judwaa. She donned some fun outfits including skater dresses, skirts, velvets, leather and don’t forget the bling! Today, we recreate one of the looks she rocked in the song “Tan Tana Tan”. It gave us an excuse to binge watch the song (multiple times. Okay! We accept. We love all Anu Malik cheesy songs to the core!). She donned three outfits in the song and all blingy aligning to the song and her role. The outfit we recreated is a black tee with leather pants with a blingy metallic crop overlay. She paired the outfit with black combat shoes and big curly hairdo.

We did not own a pair of leather or faux-leather pants, so we opted for normal high waisted black denim and paired it with a normal black t-shirt and a metallic sleeveless crop top. We completed the look with a pair of black pumps.

Sonali Bendre in Sarfarosh

Although Aamir stole the show completely in Sarfarosh, Sonali as the lovestruck friend was gorgeous. There were multiple looks in the movie that we loved, including this red ensemble, but we decided to recreate the white dress look. She paired a white bodycon dress with some embroidered detailing around the hip area with a patterned scarf around her neck like a dupatta. She is also seen carrying some flowers in the photo here.

Since we do not have the perfect figure like her, we opted for a loose white lace dress with a chunky belt to cinch in the bust area. We used a violet scarf and finished the look with a blue and white platform sandals.

Urmila Matondkar in Rangeela

Urmila was iconic in Rangeela and stole the show from Jackie Shroff and Aamir Khan. Most of her looks from the movie became instant trends and everyone loved her denim on denim look. In this inspiration photo, we see her donning a blue denim shirt with red jeans and chunky belt. A black choker and brown brogues complete the look.

We recreated the look with a chambray shirt paired with a pair of pink jeans and white sneakers. What you do not see in the photos is also a black lace choker and black hoops.

Kajol in DDLJ

During her famous Europe tour in DDLJ, Kajol is seen donning some amazing dungarees, dresses and suspender pants. In her first scene meeting SRK for the first time, she is seen wearing a maxi tee-shirt dress with long sleeves layered with a black sleeveless vest. The look is completed with black combat boots, solid black full framed glasses, middle parted hair and a small tiny bag.

We resorted to a floral maxi dress instead of the tee shirt dress and paired it with our long sleeveless black vest. We finished the look with flat pointed boots, a brown sling, and the Girl Boss book!
